RIP George Wein

James and George WeinOn July 20, 1969, legendary impresario George Wein — founder of both the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals — walked onstage and stopped JT’s first-ever Newport Festival concert after just 15 minutes. The reason? Neil Armstrong was walking on the moon. Nearly 50 years later, George once again introduced James onstage, in Newport…but this time for a complete concert.

Today we honor the great George Wein, who passed away this week at age 95.
