The month of May is commencement season. Here’s a look back to 1995 when James was bestowed an honorary doctorate by the Berklee College of Music and that year gave the commencement address to the graduating class. James will be in Boston on May 22 to give the commencement address and receive an honorary degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. The “First Lady of Children’s Music”, Ella Jenkins, and conductor & composer, David Amran, will also receive honorary degrees, while pianist Emanuel Ax and Kharkiv-based Ukrainian cellist Denys Karachevtsev will perform during the ceremony.
